Jenna Brixius is a freelance classical flutist, educator, and flute studio director in NYC and South Florida. As an orchestral musician, Jenna has performed with the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, South Florida Symphony Orchestra, Florida Wind Symphony, and the Palm Beach Symphony, in addition to freelance ensembles.
A dedicated educator, Jenna directs a private flute studio and teaches youth workshops that introduce principles of breathing, balance and expression within music to children of all ages. She founded Summer Flute Week Camp in 2015 and co-founded the Foundations for Flute Education Pedagogy Clinic in October 2020. As a Palm Beach County teacher, Jenna has taught as Artist-in-Residence and Clinician at award winning music programs, including Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Dillard Center for the Arts, Park Vista High, Jupiter High, Christa McAuliffe Middle, the Oxbridge Academy, and several elementary programs. Additionally, Jenna directed Orchestral Woodwind Sectionals and the Woodwind Chamber Ensemble for multiple seasons with the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County.
Jenna has taught as the assistant teacher at the Querflöte Musikkurswochen in Switzerland under the program direction of Flute Professor Eva Amsler. Additionally, she completed a teaching internship at the acclaimed Meadowmount School of Music where she introduced the principles of the Alexander Technique to virtuosic young string players.
Jenna is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (NYSMTA / PBCMTA), Florida Band Masters Association (FBA), National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association (FFA), and the Florida Music Educators Association. She has presented at the FFA's Convention and served as a judge for the FFA's Senior Honors Flute Choir competition.
A student of the Alexander Technique (AT) for over a decade, Jenna integrates AT principles into her pedagogy as a means of teaching her students how to access their freedom of musical expression, leading her students to be accepted into competitive programs across the USA, including All-State Bands, leading Conservatories and Schools of Music (Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, University of Michigan, Florida State University), NAfME's All-National Band, and the New World Symphony Side-by-Side Orchestras.
Jenna received her Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a student of Michel Debost, former principal flute of the Orchestre de Paris. She has also studied with Eva Amsler, Walfrid Kujala, and Kathleen Chastain. Masterclass performances include sessions with Amy Porter, Stephen Preston, Molly Barth and Alexa Still.
